Dioscorea sp Kirindy Forest Madagascar

This is an unnamed species from the dry forests of Madagascar. Unlike other dioscorea, this forms several digitate (finger like) tubers instead of one large tuber. It is deciduous, but when it emerges from dormancy, it is a powerhouse of leaf production! The tubers can be raised in a gnarly mass for display. Very rare, highly drought tolerant.

The dry forest habitats in Madagascar are in dire straits from deforestation, agriculture, and poor leadership/government corruption. This species may never be fully described since the habitat is swiftly disappearing.

Plants in 5" pots.
